Curiosity Grows Into Confidence

Junior Kindergarten builds upon the strong developmental foundations established during the early years while providing children with increasing opportunities for independence, collaboration, problem-solving, and deeper investigation.
 

Available full-time or part-time, our Junior Kindergarten program is led by a certified Alberta teacher and intentionally bridges early childhood learning with the skills and dispositions children will carry into Kindergarten.

Learning continues to be hands-on, inquiry-driven, and responsive to children's interests.

Literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, physical development, and social-emotional learning are woven into meaningful experiences rather than taught only as isolated subjects.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, communicate their thinking, work with others, and become increasingly responsible for themselves and their learning.

Junior Kindergarten | 3 & 4 Years

Small Groups, Meaningful Relationships

Junior Kindergarten groups have a maximum of 18 children with 2–3 adults in the learning environment, allowing educators to know each child well and intentionally support individual development.
 

Music and varied movement experiences further enrich the program, giving children additional opportunities to develop coordination, confidence, creativity, communication, and self-expression.

Speech & Language Support

We recognize that children develop communication skills at different rates and may benefit from additional support. Junior Kindergarten children who qualify may access speech and language support through our Speech and Language Team.
 

When appropriate, this support can take place during regular programming time, helping children develop their communication skills within the familiar environment and routines of their school day.

Learning Beyond Four Walls

Outdoor learning continues to be an essential part of the Junior Kindergarten day. Children go outdoors twice each day for approximately one hour at a time, providing significant time for active learning, movement, exploration, and discovery.
 

Outdoor experiences complement classroom learning while helping children develop physical literacy, independence, problem-solving skills, resilience, and a deeper connection with the natural world.
